What I Do

Many years ago as a graduate student, I was introduced to this new idea of “response to intervention.” I remember the first question I asked: “That sounds amazing, but how do you get people to actually do it?” Almost twenty years later, I think the answer is that you have to keep at it. MTSS can be messy and frustrating. It can also be inspiring and invigorating. I am always searching for ways to improve, grow, and strengthen tiered supports because I know it can be done -  and our students deserve nothing less.

My two decades of experiences and all the research I’ve reviewed continue to show me that MTSS is truly the best tool we have to meet ever-growing student needs. I’m passionate about promoting early interventions for academics, behaviors, social skills, and any other areas where students need us, and I truly believe that every class, school, and district can create change with MTSS. Schools that use their resources effectively and efficiently can make a real difference in student outcomes, and it doesn’t require as much cost or effort as you might expect.

What I Can Offer

Presentations and Training

I always tailor my presentations to the audience, and I’m happy to develop something specific to your school or district’s needs. Reach out and let me know what you’re thinking.

Click here for a list of recent presentations that I have given.

Virtual or in-person options are available.

My goal is to share the mistakes we’ve made and what we’ve learned with those who are getting started on their MTSS journey.

I want to help others build on their successes and navigate the barriers to creating a system that works for your students.

Consultation and Collaboration

Because MTSS is messy, sometimes a training isn’t enough to help a team figure out what they need to do. I can meet with teams in-person or virtually so that I can learn about your specific situation, and help to create a plan that will work for you. Follow-ups can be scheduled as needed to maintain or build upon supports.

About Me

At the risk of dating myself, I have been a practicing School Psychologist for over 15 years and I have been working in the field of psychology for more than 20 years. Since 2014 I have served as the Coordinator of School Psychology for North Kansas City Schools, which has given me the unique opportunity to work with many different schools and at the district level to plan and implement academic and behavioral supports.

I have a PhD in School/Applied Child Psychology from McGill University, and I’m a certified school psychologist as well as a licensed psychologist. I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the board of the Missouri Association of School Psychologists, which has given me the chance to collaborate with some incredibly passionate educators. I love to consult with districts about what they’re doing and share the resources that I have found or developed. I’ve presented at the local, state, and national levels on topics related to MTSS, special education, dyslexia, and school psychology.

When the workday is done, I love hanging out with my husband, kids, and very handsome dogs. I’m in the phase of parenting where we function as drivers and equipment managers for all the children’s activities, but I still find spare time to read, crochet, travel, try new restaurants, and raise what some people claim is “entirely too many” houseplants.
